The Open Door Project also facilitates yearly community involvement events to boost community moral and participation, as well as to thank our community for its continued support
In 2021, we hosted our first 5K. Many people came out to enjoy the run, lunch, music, and more. Students from Open Door Project created inspirational posters that were placed along the runners’ route that spread the message of You Matter.
Every year, for the last ten years, the organization also hosts the “All Treats and No Tricks”' Halloween event reaching nearly 500 people in the community. During this time, children and families can enter the Open Door to receive milk and cookies.
In 2020, the organization invited the community to participate in a holiday gift initiative that allowed each student at the Open Door Project to receive their very own gift.
The Open Door Project has also hosted two women’s empowerment events for the community at our local theater which reached nearly 500 people.
Our newest community initiative is our annual Community Pick Me Up which takes place every Summer or Spring. The Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and students of the Open Door Project spend a day in our community picking up trash, pulling weeds, and planting flowers.
Over the last nine years, the organization continues to look for opportunities to engage the children of the community and their families and each year we are blown away by our community’s participation and support!
